Journey to Fantasy Faire

I’ve only been in Second Life a short time, but last year I found myself completely enchanted by the Fantasy Faire, so much so that I couldn’t wait to attend again.  The Fairelands are now open to explore all while supporting an amazing cause, Relay for Life.

Servants of Odin

I’ve done a bit of my own adventuring through these beautiful lands, and they are just as wonderful as expected.  As a lover of all things fairy tale related, I truly fell in love with the Spires of Andolys, but there are many sims and each one has something to offer for those that love escaping reality into fantasy.

Friday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Night Theater’s performance “Fantasme” at the Fairelands.  It was just as lovely as all the other things the fair has to offer, entrancing and amazing.

Fantasme at Fantasy Faire 2015

I am a big fan of theater and performance both in the real world and the virtual, and this performance exceeded all expectations.  If you have the chance, you should definitely check out their performance, They will be sharing their show at 7pm SLT on weeknights and 12pm SLT on weekends.

Suck it up and RUN

RUN, little girl!

My lungs burn as if I’ve inhaled napalm.  Pain ignites my nerves with an intense throbbing, punishing me for every step I make. This hurts!

This.

SUCKS.

The voice of Resistance screams in my head for me to stop and give in to the pint of Ben and Jerry’s in the freezer.  Stop.  Why not sit in your comfy chair, and rot away in front of the computer?  You’ve been doing that for a year already.  Why not do that again for today?  Just for today?

My house is only a block away.  The Resistance compromises.  “What if you walked?  Let’s not go another lap.  You did enough already.  You could go home, and that extra ten minutes you save could be used to do something productive – like your schoolwork.”

The ninja in me screams in my ear.  “RUN, YOU LAZY, OUT-OF-SHAPE DESK POTATO.  RUN!”  The voice reminds me of the little me – the one with the back aches who feels so tired every day.  She gets winded walking up two flights of stairs, and last week’s bag of pita chips sent her into such a diabetic shock that she was shaking and sick for hours afterwards.

One day, she will have a hunchback like her grandmother.  Her bones will become weak, her muscles will atrophy, and she will become crippled, frail, and old.  Without proper blood circulation and oxygen to her brain, she will deteriorate into a dim-witted thing, sitting in front of the computer screen, chortling at pictures of funny cats while she decomposed in her sorrows because she was not strong enough to defeat the Resistance.  People will look at the tiny shriveled old lady and pity the shadow of the woman that she once was.

I let this fear take over me and run.

..and run.

I run away from what I am and from what I am afraid of becoming.

I finish my two miles and nearly collapse in a hot mess at foot of my stairs.  Today, I slapped my Resistance in the face and said, “SUCK IT, BITCH.”

The Resistance looks at me with her pretty dimpled smile and a merry twinkle in her eye.  She laughs and replies, “That’s okay.  Tomorrow, you’ll have to face me again.”

Call for Second Life Artists, Writers, Poets and Photographers

Charity Art Auction for Relay for LifeThe Relay Wizards team is holding a silent art auction from June 20-June 27 as a charity fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.  The event will be hosted at the Builder’s Brewery, and will kick off with a black tie ball from 1:00-3:00 pm SLT on June 20th.  The 2015 Avi Choice Award’s favorite performer, Magnus Brody  will be our DJ!

Afterwards, people will be able to bid on artwork throughout the week until June 27th.

If you would to donate a piece for the event to be auctioned off, please contact either Explorer Dastardly or Blue Myanamotu in Second Life, OR just fill out our convenient form online.  We will do our very best to promote your work, and we really appreciate your kind donation!

If you are a poet or writer, we are planning an open poetry event to highlight your work.  You can then donate the piece (via texture, or even collaborate with an artist) for the auction.

Also, if you know of people who would be interested in helping, or who would like to donate their artwork, could you please send this information their way?  THANK YOU!!!

Explorer and Blue will be collecting pieces and brief artists bios for the event up until June 13th.

Camp NaNoWriMo 2015

Featured image

It’s a official!  Camp NaNoWriMo has started and I (Natalya) am a camper, ready to put words to the page!  For those of you that don’t know, Camp Nanowrimo is an extention of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).  NaNoWriMo takes place each November and each participant tries to write a novel during the month (50,000 words).  During Camp Nanowrimo, each person sets their own word count goal.

My goal is still 50,000 words, and I will be working on both writing a new novel and revising the novel I wrote last November.  This means I’m hoping for at least 25,000 new words and 25,000 revised words.  Secretly I’m sort of challenging myself to double that goal but we will see how this month goes!  I’m also working on the first draft of a serial story that I hope to publish on Wattpad.

Falling back in love with writing has been one of the greatest things I have experienced this year, and it makes story telling that much more enjoyable!
