Artist Spotlight – Haveit Neox

Our silent Art Auction at the Builder’s Brewery in Second life has been really amazing, with some incredible artists on the grid.  We are going to spotlight the awesome people that have contributed to this amazing event!  This is a Relay For Life Event, and proceeds from the Art Auction will go to benefit the American Cancer Society.  The Art Auction will run June 20-28th, and will kick off with a Masquerade Ball on the 20th!  There will also be events all week to raise money for the cause, so stay tuned for more info!

Artist Spotlight: Haveit Neox

I feel that I grew up in a garden. Nearly always a barefoot kid with stained feet from the earth, I constructed primitive cities with yard debris, mud, and twigs. Colorful paint and cutout pictures from magazines enriched the surfaces. Later I fashioned cities of fired clay and glazes. Interior and exterior spaces fascinated me as I observed bugs take up residence. I also drew cities on paper and long scrolls. As an adult and artist, the cities advanced from their mud origins, to painted scrolls, ceramics and metals for the architectural features, and currently to pixels.

In Real Life, I have displayed my artworks mainly in Los Angeles, New York, and a couple shows in Paris. The theme is often based on urban settings of my own invention. In Dec. 2009, I was lead to the virtual world of Second Life, which I enjoy as an art studio. For the first time in my life, I now witness people (by virtue of their avatars) entering into, and using the spaces I created. In the context of the city, the interior and exterior spaces both hold my artwork, and are themselves a habitable exhibit.

Current exhibit is at LEA20 until the night of June 30, 2015. Please scroll down under exhibits for info.

Since finishing school, she’s continued creating art, both in and out of Second Life.

Artist Biograhy

Explorer Dastardly (Helen R. Starr) has been active in the Second Life community for almost eight years. Explorer was a student, at her university, and her classes where in SL. The class, VT 2.0 (Virtual Technology), was based on immersion and engaging with the SL communities. Explorer boasts, “The immersion was amazing.” Since then Explorer has created a lecture format on Holocaust Education with her mother, a Holocaust Survivor. Fanny Starr’s story has been shared with many on the grid, and the mission is not over.

Explorer also studied digital photography, and English writing, which she expresses daily on her blog. Her blog Dashboard Messages reflects the renewing, and nourishing of the mind, body, and spirit. The photography, and writings are Helen’s unless otherwise noted.

Artists Statement

“I classify my photography and poetry as art. I’ll post an image, look at it often, and edit the small blemishes. Some images I’ll remove all together, because something was not appealing to me. I write many emotions that accompany the images. The messages vary, some are personal, some are religious, and some are or about friends.  I like to thank the universe often.”

Current

The Holocaust mission will present in July 2015 at SOFE.  Fanny Starr and Helen R. Starr, will present to Regis University’s SOFE Project. SOFE teaches about wealth and disparity in different cultures worldwide. Helen uses photography and writing as a form of physical therapy by connecting with nature.

Artist Spotlight: Feathers Boa

As we prepare for the upcoming Art Auction at the Builder’s Brewery in Second life, we are going to spotlight the awesome people slated to contribute to this amazing event!  This is a Relay For Life Event, and proceeds from the Art Auction will go to benefit the American Cancer Society.  The Art Auction will run June 20-27th, and will kick off with a Masquerade Ball on the 20th!  There will also be events all week to raise money for the cause, so stay tuned for more info!

Artist Spotlight: Feathers Boa

Feathers Boa (aka Mary L. in RL) has been active in the Second Life Art Community for nearly 7 years. When she first joined SL, she was an art student, and is now working as a freelance video game designer in both the US and Japan. In SL, she has established an impressive body of work that includes fully immersive pieces, interactive digital “paintings,” giant robots, and full architectural builds. She participated in NPIRL’s Garden of Earthly Delights exhibition, Burning Life ’09 and has lectured on interactive art in a number of venues. Her work was featured in Rinascimento Virtuale, held in Florence, Italy in October 2008, as well as an SL/RL crossover exhibition at the Harbor Gallery in 2010. Her work has been shown in dozens of galleries throughout SL most recently at Crossworlds Gallery.

NEWS

She recently returned to creating art in Second Life after an extended break to focus on her real life career.

ART STATEMENT

“What I look for is ways to use SL as a medium. To create something which could not exist in the REAL WORLD. Something surprising and unique to the virtual world. My work is not always about beauty, but I am obsessed by beauty especially in the female form. I believe that we are seeing a new form of creative expression being born in SL and other virtual worlds. There are so many talented people here and that the best is yet to come.”

VIRTUAL “REACTIVE” ARTIST

Feathers trolls junk shops and back alleys to find interesting objects such as old sepia photos, newspapers, postcards, letters, broken watches, etc., to create many of her pieces. She either photographs these objects using a Nikon digital camera or uses her Epson RX580 scan bed to scan them directly into Photoshop. These “found” objects usually form the central images of her pieces. She also uses Cinema 4D, Vue and ZBrush to create wholly digital 3D objects. She sees textures everywhere and never leaves home without her camera in her handbag or backpack. When the digital work is complete, she brings textures into SL and adds them to objects to make sculptures or to multi-layered canvases and then makes them come alive using simple LSL scripts. Each work “reacts” to the presence of the viewer in unique ways and must be seen to be believed.

BACKGROUND

Born on the outskirts of Philadelphia, PA and at a mere 26 years old, Feathers is still learning new ways to make art every day.

Artist Spotlight: Van Caerndow

Van Caerndow is known as Phil Strang in RL. He paints on glass. He does about 35 new paintings a year and about 1/2 of them are portraits of SL avatars.  (ask Van for more information) Please visit his gallery and enjoy his westerns and  portraits and dozens of others.

If you ever would like a portrait done please contact him. He does commissioned portraits for 6000 lindens

Most of his paintings are smaller than 8″ by 10″ in real life and he uses a type of paint called Pebeo. The paintings are baked onto the glass and then he has them professionally scanned and brought into SL.

In addition, due to losing most of his sight in his left eye he now is also doing some experimental abstracts on canvas and foam board. He is doing splatter paintings as well as two techniques he created, Splips and Splabs. “Every eye closed is a window open”
